December 16 gangrape: Death penalty for all convicts
Delhi’s Saket Court has given Death sentence to all four accused of Dec 16 Damini rape accused. Not only India but whole world has welcomed the announcement. Stating the statement as rarest of rare, court has not shown any mercy to the accused.
In the statement court explained-In the recent time when crime against women has been on rise we can’t close our eyes. Such incidents would not be tolerated.
16 December rape case has shocked not only billion of peoples but whole humanity. Today’s result was being awaited by whole world. From VIP’s to common man, everyone thinks that today’s statement would prove a milestone.
Along with Fast Track court, Session judge Yogesh Khanna announced his verdict at 2:30 pm. Defense lawyer was asking for a mercy chance for reform, but court showed no mercy at all, relieving billions of people and paying due homage to Damini.
Earlier this week on Wednesday, Judge Yogesh Khanna completed the hearing session on case and secured the verdict. The court has accused all four of inhumane crimes like murder and gang rape. Accused has been awarded the maximum punishment for such crimes which is death penalty.
Accused of Murder
Saket Court accused all four- Mukesh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur of murder. Court found accused Vinay guilty who was claiming not remain on crime scene.
All four accused were found guilty under IPC 302, 376(2G), 377,307, 365, 366, 396, 395, 397, 201, 412, 34 and 120B.
The fifth accused Ram Singh has committed suicide in Tihar Jail during Trial, while the sixth accused, found to be under 18, has been termed by Juvenile justice board for three year jail.
The Incident:
On 16 December,2012 Damini was gangraped by 6 persons in a moving bus in Munirka area of South Delhi. Her boyfriend was tortured along with her. After gangrape, they threw both of them from moving bus. The girl was brutally raped, having a rod inserted in her private part which ultimately caused her death. There were several deep bite cut marks over her body.
She was moved to Singapore for treatment but she couldn’t survive. In her last words, she asked for harshest punishment for the devils.
That inhumane event shook whole world. There was a nationwide stir demanding death penalty to the accused. Government formed Justice Verma committee to see all sexual harassment cases. Approving maximum appeals of Verma committee, Government formed Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013, which was approved by President on 2 April, 2013.
