HD Video games Launched online

The world loves a freebie and at a time when console titles can set you back £30 to £40, Square Enix has come up with rather a nice little idea: free HD games on your browser.

The CoreOnline service(beta.coreonline.com) streams games from the company’s mighty back catalogue of titles and allows you to play them for absolutely no money whatsoever. Titles on offer upon the service’s launch were slim – Hitman: Blood Money and Mini Ninjas – but the likes of Tomb Raider: Underworld, Gyromancer, and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light are advertised as coming soon.

The trade off for being able to play games for free is having to endure advertising in order to earn more playing time, which is to be expected. It will be interesting to see how SquareEnix’s service fares. We were quite impressed with our Hitman gaming experience. It will, of course, need more titles to keep people interested, but if you fancy a new online gaming pastime, we really can’t see any drawbacks to giving this a go.
